Uniforms - 18th and 19th Century

18 CenturyMilitary requirements whether practical or decorative, are met by additions or omissions as circumstances dictate.

The original military officers' uniforms were based upon the military styles of the period, with their lavish displays of gold lace and embroidery, wide lapels and innumerable buttons.

The Frock Coat
Before 1933 the frock-coat was described as " cut for six buttons but to have five buttons on each breast, four to button." It was placed in abeyance in 1939 and has since been abolished.
