Club Quick Facts

Location

The club is located on the Dartmouth side of the harbour and is located at -63 31' 17.13261'' and 44 37' 43.69343''. From the shore we are located just off Pleasant Street at the border of Dartmouth and Eastern Passage.  Our entrance changed in Spring 2005 so that we would NOT need to go through the lower gate.  Our new entrance is located on Avenger Place.  This street has a RED BRICK building on the corner titled "The Baden Powell Center". 

Members arranging for entry for their guests and visitors should meet them at the club to ensure the gate is open.  Keys for the gate can be purchased, by members, at the bar for a refundable amount of $10.

Activities

Shearwater Yacht Club offers a variety of sailing activities, including racing, cruising and sail training.

Cruising sailors find the club’s location in Eastern Passage near the mouth of Halifax Harbour both a safe anchorage and convenient for weekend excursions along the coast of Nova Scotia.

SYC offers a full program of weekly club racing and, as a member of the Nova Scotia Yachting Association, both hosts and sends representative members to Canadian Yachting Association sanctioned regattas throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality area. Newcomers to the sport often find that crewing on a racing yacht is an excellent introduction to both the sport and the club.

Training is available for all ages. Summer programs for young people enable them to progress through the CYA White Sail program. Adult training programs include navigation, race Management, marine radio operator and others. SYC is committed to enabling members to improve their skills and assisting newcomers to learn to enjoy how to sail safely.

Social

The social side of our club adds to the fun of the season, all year around. In addition to informal gathering after races, the club hosts weekly barbeques and pot luck dinners as well as special events such as the Polar Regatta BBQ, Hallowe’en costume party, Awards Night and the Christmas Party.
