The
first every “Regatta for the Cure”, a sail boat race to raise money
for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Atlantic (CBCFA). This
Regatta will be held a The Shearwater Yacht Club on July 11, 2009
and hosted in conjunction with Amanda (AJ)
Quarmby-Bennett and Shearwater Yacht Club.
All of the yacht clubs and marinas are being notified and invited to
participate in this special race. The boats will be considered a
team with each crew member that takes part will be given a pledge
sheet to be sponsored into the race (the ‘entry fee’). The pledge
sheets will be collected the day of the race by a representative
from CBCFA. Normal registration (i.e. handicap information, class)
will take place.
This fun filled day will continue on with a BBQ following the race
at SYC where the will be a meet and greet of breast cancer
survivors. There will be prizes given out for place finishers and
best theme boats. The Breast Cancer Foundation will be there to hand
out information about breast cancer and it’s prevention. Keeping the
party going into the night will be a dance by a live band.
It takes support from companies, Yacht clubs, Marinas and everyday
all around Halifax to make these events take place. We are asking
all participants to be part of this new Breast Cancer fundraiser on
July 11, 2009 by dressing up the event in pink. Everyone that
attends, either racing or coming out to support will be given the
opportunity to dawn a pink t-shirt with the Regatta for the Cure
logo.
Let us paint Halifax’s harbor pink and soar over the waves.
If you have any questions or need more information on how you can be
